The Weaning Diaries//: Part 1


Over the past couple of weeks we've been hmm-ing and ahh-ing over whether to wean Imogen early or not. We both knew that she was ready but I really wanted to stick to the 6 month mark to try her with foods. I caved. I knew in my heart I wanted to start with puree vegetables and fruit and then slowly add in solid finger food before the year was out.



When we first tried weaning with her, we tried all sorts of baby rice and baby breakfasts. I got all giddy and went to Boots, Asda and Tesco to find what I thought would be best for her and what we could use to introduce new tastes. Nope, she wan't having none of it. I could only sympathize with her as I didn't like it myself. We tried again two weeks later. 




This time around we tried an ella's kitchen pouch first. We used the 'mangoes, pears and papaya's' flavour. I know you're not supposed to mix foods and try singular ones but we had it for free so we thought we would give it a go. She LOVED it. She would have ate the entire pouch if we let her! 

For the first couple of days we gave her what would be around two tablespoons of food between her morning milks. I knew that it was the right decision then that even though it was earlier than the recommended, she was ready. I started using the pouches from Aldi just while R was at work, so then we could make our own when I had a hand to spare. 



We've since made her some vegetable puree's using carrot, sweet potato, peas and broccoli. I'm on the search for some new things to make for her to mix foods up and I'm going to use this handy little book we received in the post and got for free from Boots! 

In the next few days I'm making a big shopping list and we're going to cook a lot of new foods for her to try so until then!
