Trying My Little Piccolo & recipe inside!

A couple of weeks ago I was kindly sent this package for Imogen to try out. As a mum who is combination weaning, I want to find the most organic and natural products for on the go. We currently make most of our puree's and BLW food, but while we're out and about, we enjoy trying out new tastes with her.

We wern't asked to blog about the company or the products but honestly, there some of the nicest packaged, looking and smelling baby food we have found. They're also organic! I couldn't NOT blog and share this with you! The courgette, pea and leek, smelt like a soup you would have in a posh restaurant. Me and R even gave it a taste, not bad, not bad! (I hate pea's and courgette so..).

We were sent the courgette, pea and leek pouch with a hint of mint and the carrot, sweet potato and squash pouch with a hint of parsley from the mediterranean range to try (which is exclusive to Waitrose). Safe to say these went down a treat! The carrot, sweet potato and squash didn't even touch the sides or go around her mouth! They sent us the recipe so we can make it ourselves too! We're going to give it a try ASAP! I never even thought to add parsley when we make her puree's or any other herbs or spices.

As an extra treat for Imogen we were sent a bib with patches to iron on wherever we liked. We've decided to iron them on when she's tried the vegetables pureed and BLW'd! It's just something fun and not something I would've thought to do myself! I might embroider some more vegetables into it as she trys them!

My favourite thing about My Little Piccolo is that even though they're a food brand, they're all about encouraging children to eat fruit and vegetables so what sets them apart as a company is that they donate 10% of it's profits to food education. Incredible!

They have included the recipe to their carrot, sweet potato and squash with a hint of parsley! I've included it down below for you to try out with your little one yourself!

Ingredients you will need
  • Dash of olive oil
  • 1 medium sweet potato, peeled and roughly chopped
  • 100g butternut squah, peeled, chopped and de-seeded
  • 2 carrots, peeled and roughly chopped
  • 1 small clove of garlic, peeled and crushed
  • 1/4 tsp of dried parsley or 3/4 leaves of fresh parsley
  • 100ml of salt free stock or boiling water
This is ready in 25 minutes.
Created 4 portions.
Suitable for freezing.
Can be fed, hot or cold.
And suitable from around 6 months!

  1. Heat the oil in a medium sized saucepan.
  2. Add the garlic and stir for a minute before adding the carrot, sweet potato and butternut squash,
  3. Stir on a medium heat for a few minutes.
  4. Add the stock and stir in the parsley.
  5. Place a lif on and cook for around 10 minutes until the vegetables are soft.
  6. Reserve around half of the stock by pouring it into a mug.
  7. Blend the vegetables and more water to get to the consistency you want.

Overall, My Little Piccolo are a lovely brand and we thoroughly enjoyed trying out the food. We'll definitely reach for these on the shelves again and I can't wait to try the other flavours with Imogen. I feel comfortable knowing that there's no added nastiness involved and that they have flavours out that I haven't seen before.

Have you tried any of their products? Any you would recommend?

Until next time
