THE GRILL @ WORSLEY PARK MARRIOTT HOTEL & COUNTRY CLUB REVIEW

Worsley Park Marriott The Grill

Last Thursday I was invited to the Worsley Park Marriott Hotel & Country Club to celebrate and test out the new menu at The Grill. I ventured with Claire from Dear mummy bear and a few other bloggers to check out the refurbishment not only the menu itself but the restaurant too. The Worsley Park Marriott is only a 15 minute drive from my home and having never been I was eager to try the food on offer. I was excited and nervous about going to a country club so here is how I got on..

When I arrived at Worsley Park it's no surprise that the place screamed luxury with its spectacular grounds, golf course and decoration. I always thought personally that country clubs were only for those who would want to spend the night and played golf or for weddings. I stereotyped it thinking that it was only for posh people in their big cars and that I would be completely out of place. Well. I was certainly wrong.

Upon arrival I was greeted by the staff who were very warm and welcoming and accommodated to our every need. We were situated in The Grill in a small room for a bit more privacy but also because we were a large group. The dim lighting set a warm ambience to the room but not overbearing so that you was straining to see anything in front of you.

As it was this mama's night off I ordered a pinot grigio rose to have alongside my meal. I know I know I should've probably had white or red to compliment my meal but I wanted to take advantage that I could have an actual drink! We ordered our starters and mains and it was such a good selection that it was hard to choose what we wanted. I thought that the menu was very clever however as there wasn't so much that it was overbearing and you got to pick from a few things rather than pages and pages. Before we got comfy to enjoy our meal we were invited to watch and create cocktails and hopefully that tasted great! With great assistance we created French Martinis and Long Island Ice Tea's. The two gentlemen who demonstrated the session had to put up with our quips but were delightful and didn't judge us too hard on our skills. I made the French Martini which was made up of pineapple juice, vodka and Chamboard. IT looks amazing and tasted great too. Claire made the Long Island Ice Tea which you can see here, and she concentrated so hard! It was lovely getting everyone up and involved to join in apart from the men. The men took the samples because they don't have as much skill as us ladies clearly!

We then sat back down ready to eat. I ordered the Satay Chicken Skewers to start and it looked and tasted amazing. I always try and mix up things and try new things along the way. As my partner works with pan asian food I thought I would try the satay to make him proud. Satay sauce is a peanut based sauce and it wasn't actually over bearing or completely nutty. It perfectly complimented the dish that was made up of grilled chicken skewers, satay sauce, a wedge of lime and rocket leaves.

Our mains arrived not too long after or that I had noticed! I ordered the Stirloin steak medium well with the chunky chips, peppercorn sauce and a chimichurri sauce. Going to a grill I thought I ought to order a steak to see how they tasted. Peppercorn sauce is my favourite condiment with anything in life but I wanted to try out the chimicurri sauce thanks to the recommendation of our server. The steak was a little under done to my liking and was more on the medium rare side but I didn't mind. It was seasoned well and was cooked beautifully. There was a slight bit of grizzle but not a lot. I think it's something that you might end up having no matter where you go for a steak. when I say little, I mean a 1 penny size.

The chunky chips lived up to their name and were cooked so lovely. They were fluffy even for something a little stodgy and filled you up nicely. Accompanying the dish was a grilled tomato and mushrooms. Apologies, these are two of three things in my life that I have tried time and time again and can't stand so I can't give you a fair review on them however they looked delicious.

For the sauces I stuck to my favourite and Worsley Park reminded me again why I love peppercorn sauce so much. It was peppery, creamy and tasty. It was perfect and I would've stopped there hadn't I been so curious. The chimichurri sauce wasn't my favourite. I knew it was a herby and slightly spicy sauce that was borderline an oil rather than a smooth sauce. As someone who enjoys spice it wasn't spicy to me. It was nice and enjoyable but it wasn't my favourite personally. It just wasn't what I was expecting but it was in no means bad. I think it's just something you need to try personally. I think the main course as a whole was rather enjoyable and I couldn't even finish it all but I didn't feel like I do on Christmas day. It was a nice feeling of being full.

In between our each bites of food we were all chatting and talking away and it was such a lovely night even though 6 out of 8 were strangers to me! Such lovely company and a great laugh. I really thought I would've been out of place with my giant moon boots (I couldn't find my heels in time) and overdone highlighter. There was only one comment made by a guest that night that made me feel unwelcome but you know, that happens when some people are old and bitter and don't like change! It didn't affect my night and suprisingly not another single person judged me, looked at me or made me feel strange. Which, I thought was amazing. I clearly didn't look like I fitted the upper class picture and no one cared. Everyone was there for an enjoyable night and it was amazing.

Finally we picked between deserts and as they didn't have many of my preference in store I took one for the team and ordered the ice cream. On the menu it does say that it is served with shortbread but I didn't think to ask the server about it so it was my own fault really. They had a few different selections of ice cream on offer and I picked the salted caramel, toffee and vanilla. It was really tasty and creamy but I had enough. I was full and very satisfied from the meal I just had eaten.

The food itself I think is reasonably priced. It is expensive but it's also amazing quality and presented beautifully and you can tell it's not just any old food that they use. It is somewhere I would love to visit again and will probably take my mum to for a nice sit down meal. My partner is vegan and although they cater for vegetarians, it's not the ideal place for him.

Overall it was such a surprisingly nice evening that had great food, live music and company and service. I will definitely be returning and perhaps even visit for their infamous breakfast menu. I felt welcome and although it is posh if you compare it to Nando's or something like that it isn't snooty and it's lovely. I fell in love.

You can book a table for the Worsley Park Marriott Hotel & Country Club here and I would recommend the Stirloin steak and the Chocolate Pot as it looked amaaaazing. For anymore information check out the website here

Until next time,

*In exchange for this review I was offered a free meal. All views are my own and really, I LOVED it.
